This listing is specifically for remixes of vocal songs, under certain conditions.

  • If you will already be providing the vocal stems and don't need me to make vocals from scratch, please refer to this listing instead.
  • If you simply need a BGM remix, please refer to this listing instead.

  • Minimum turnaround time: 2 months (please note that I may be able to deliver earlier, but it may involve an extra fee).
  • Price and details listed here are based on an approximately 4-minute song with one primary vocal line. Adjustments will be made based on the actual scope of the project.
  • This is an "all-in-one" package for which I can compose, arrange, tune vocals for, mix, and master a remix of any vocal song from scratch. This is effectively a somewhat discounted version of the VOCALOID/UTAU song production listing, with lowered rates to account for the lesser labor overhead in relation to composition and lyrics, and a more lenient intellectual property rights policy.
    • This listing is specifically for remixes made with VOCALOID/UTAU as the vocals. If you would like a remix done with a human vocalist, please email your project proposal to me at lystrialle (at) gmail.com instead of reserving a commission slot here, as coordinating a project schedule with the vocalist will require its own process.
  • Please note that I will only do a remix of a song that is either 1) your own song or 2) a song that you have proof of written permission that you are allowed to commission a remix of the song.
  • My specialty is primarily in ethnic folk, neofolk, and hybrid genres thereof (please refer to my portfolio for a full range of things I can do). I can attempt to do work in other genres, but can make no guarantees about the potential quality.
  • I can only use VOCALOID or UTAU vocals I have legal access to. This means a VOCALOID vocal from my current ownership list, or a freely available UTAU (or one that you provide yourself).
  • I can only do a remix with English, Japanese, or Korean lyrics. I can also do conlangs/fictional languages provided that the conlang's phonetics are reasonably producible with the vocal in question.
    • In the case of English/Japanese/Korean, the vocal used needs to natively support the language requested (e.g. I can't force English out of a vocal built for Japanese), so please keep that in mind for your request.
    • Non-English languages may be subject to a (very small) discount due to their lower phonetic input overhead compared to English.
  • If the request falls under UTAU, the UTAU library needs to fall under one of the following configurations:
    • English: VCCV or CV-VC with Cz markup
    • Japanese: CV, VCV, or CVVC with romaji or hiragana markup
    • Korean: VCCV or CV-VC with markup at least mostly based on Revised Romanization of Korean
  • While I can do remixes of songs that don't originally have lyrics (i.e. making a lyric song out of a song that didn't have them), please note that a significant upcharge may be added for lyricwriting costs.
  • Delivered material will include any or all of the following:
    • The fully vocal-tuned, arranged, mixed remix, in mastered and/or unmastered versions, in .wav form.
    • Individual vocal and instrument stems, if the client wishes to mix/master it themself.
    • The VOCALOID (.mid/.vsqx/.vpr) or UTAU (.ust) file used for tuning, along with any other information to make the files operational. Note that I usually use the V5 editor for V3-5 vocals, but I also have access to V4 and Piapro Studio and can tune in either of those if a client does not have access to V5 and would like to be able to modify the file themself. I can also export a V2-3 compatible .vsq if the client needs it.

Before commissioning, please have the following ready:

  • A copy of the original song (if this is your own song), or, if this is for another person's song, a link to the original song (or a link to purchase the song, if applicable) and proof of written permission from the song's creator to carry out this commission. I will not do a commission if this proof has not been established. In addition, please note that I will not do the commission if I am incapable of legally obtaining access the song myself.
  • The original song's lyrics, if you have any.

Commercial use policy

By default, I will consider the remix delivered to be the intellectual property of the song's original producer (regardless of whether or not the client and producer are the same entity), and they will be free to use and build upon the sound and vocal data for future project without requesting permission or paying an extra fee, provided all other policies are followed. However, I have two stipulations on such usage:

  • that I receive proper named attribution/credit for my work, and
  • that the individual instrument stems, vocal stems, and vocal data file (or any modification thereof) are not publicly redistributed in any capacity, and remain for internal use only by the producer and anyone they work with.

The service provided here is generally intended for personal projects. Commercial usage (via digital sales or monetization such as Patreon) of what I deliver is approved under the condition that revenue does not exceed $500. Therefore:

  • If your project is entirely non-commercial, or implicitly non- or minimal-profit (for instance, collaborative charity compilation albums, limited-print doujinshi, etc.), please email your project proposal to me at lystrialle (at) gmail.com before reserving a commission slot here. Depending on my schedule, my personal level of interest, and the scope of the request, I may be able to discount or even potentially waive the commission fee.
  • If you expect that revenue from this remix, or a project containing this remix, will exceed $500, depending on the scope of the project I may ask for an increased commission fee, so please indicate in your request what your expected revenue for your project will be.
  • I am capable of negotiating a royalty scheme in lieu of a one-time commission fee, in which case please email your project proposal to me at lystrialle (at) gmail.com instead of reserving a commission slot here.
  • If you anticipate that your project will require long-term, sustained involvement for a much larger project rather than a single one-off one, please email your project proposal to me at lystrialle (at) gmail.com instead of reserving a commission slot here.
