Description:

Hey there; thanks for supporting me!
On Labor day weekend, I went home to visit my family, and also brought along Jason Logan's "Make Ink" book that I borrowed from the library. My parents had an abundance of blackberries, I had an abundance of needing to try out this book!
SO!
I'm going off a version of Jason's pokeberry recipe, which requires no binder (gum arabic, etc) and is mostly based in the juice of the berry.
As soon as I got home and setteled, I ground up the blackberries into a paste with a mortar and pestle, and plopped the paste into a coffee filter wrapped around a glass jar. It took a while to drip the filtered juice into the jar, so patience was key.
I took the coffee filters and ended up squeezing the contents through to help speed things up a bit, and then took some juice aside and tested some by itself, and some with vinegar.
The vinegar-tinted ink ended up a nice deep royal purple that fades in a blue as it dries.
As noted in the book, I've kept these inks refrigerated and dropped a whole clove into each vial, to delay mould.

While I've documented this process, I've also tinkered with several other kinds of inks, such as paprika, vine charcoal, alcohol-based turmeric and cinnamon (the turmeric is SO BRIGHT) and even a red onion skin ink that didn't turn out whatsoever.
