New launch process for Creator accounts

over 2 years ago New Feature

To improve user trust and reduce spam on the platform, Commiss.io is introducing a new launch process for Creator accounts. This is similar to many other platforms and will require new creators to submit their profile for approval.

If you create an account on or after March 6, 2024 you'll be asked to submit your account for review before your creator account is activated.

For most existing creators there will be no change to your account and you won't have to go through the approval process again. If you're a relatively new creator or meet some criteria, we may reach out to you to collect additional information before your account is activated.

You can read more about this change in our help center

Embed Your Trello Board & Manually Close Listings

over 6 years ago New Feature

We're happy to announce two new features, one of which aligns with our 2020 goal of bringing closer integrations between Commiss.io and your favorite other services.

Embed your Trello Board

You can now embed your Trello board on Commiss.io, one of our top rated suggestions.

To get started, login and edit your profile. You'll see a new option to add your Trello board ID. Once you add your board ID, we'll automatically pull in the content from your Trello board and include it on your Workboard!

Manually Close Listings

A super quick update, but you can now manually close listings through the Edit Listing page. This allows you to close listings to new projects, without completely removing it from your page. Now you can promote your listings even when you're not actively taking on new projects!

We hope you enjoy these new features, and look forward to all the new tools we'll bring in 2020!

Twitter integration fixed

over 6 years ago Bug Fix

We released a small update today to fix a problem with our Twitter integration, where account linking and using a Twitter account to sign in to Commiss.io were not functioning properly.

This should now work correctly for all users. If you run into any additional issues, please feel free to contact our Support team any time!

Commissio Launches in 10 New Countries - New Registration Flow

over 6 years ago New Feature

Commissio Launches in 10 New Countries

We're happy to announce that we've just launched Commiss.io in 10 new countries, with 2 more coming in the next few weeks. The new countries are: Switzerland, Estonia, Greece, Hong Kong, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, and Slovenia!

We're currently on track to launch in Malaysia and Mexico by November 1, 2019.

A new registration and verification flow

Identity information in every country is different. Different formats of addresses, different identity verification processes, different postal codes! There's a lot to keep track of, and our payment partner Stripe does a fantastic job of it.

Starting today, when registering a new account, verifying your identity, or editing profile information for an existing account, you'll be able to provide this information directly to Stripe, safe and securely. They'll store it behind world-class protection, and make every step super easy!

As a note, Malaysia and Mexico will use the old registration and edit flow at launch, temporarily.

Backend Updates

We've completed phase one of a long-term modernization process for our backend. You shouldn't notice anything immediately, except maybe Commiss.io running a little smoother and faster. If you hit any bugs or errors, let us know immediately so we can get it fixed!

Better download labeling

almost 7 years ago Improvement

A quick update! We've made an update to digital downloads to better indicate how to download files after a client makes a purchase. We've added additional labels and helper text on the post-purchase page.

Improvements to payment processing

almost 7 years ago Improvement

In preparation for changes to our payment processing, and our upcoming PayPal integration, we've made some changes to the way payments are processed.

When submitting payments, we will now display an interstitial to indicate that payment is being processed. This should also help prevent duplicate payment submissions.

Currently we process payments at the time of submission, but due to changing European Union payment rules, we will soon process payments in the background. We will also process payments in the background when using PayPal.

This interstitial will help make the current processing status clear and help support our future background payment processing.

Fix Embedded Profile Links

about 7 years ago Bug Fix

In a recent update we improved performance across Commiss.io. Unfortunately this created an unexpected issue on embedded versions of profile pages where links would not open appropriately.

This has now been fixed, and embedded profile links, including listings, should now open properly. If you run into any additional problems, please reach out to us!

Ability to disable tips

about 7 years ago Improvement

In response to a suggestion, we've added the ability to disable tips in your Creator Settings.

Tips can be enabled or disabled at any time, depending on your needs.

Postmortem: Instant Payouts restored

about 7 years ago Bug Fix

Instant Payouts have been Re-enabled

US-based creators can initiate an instant payout the same way as before, in your creator settings. However, there are some additional restrictions that apply to the use of the Instant Payouts feature.

Use of the Instant Payout feature now requires:

  • A verified identity
  • An account at least 48 hours old
  • No strikes on your account

If you're ineligible for instant payouts, you'll be informed which criteria are not met and be given an opportunity to make changes to qualify, or reach out to staff.

We recognize that not everyone may be able to meet the above criteria. Our staff will be able to issue case-by-case exceptions as needed.

What happened?

Last week, one or more individuals were able to abuse instant payouts in an attempt to launder funds. Our fraud and security systems immediately detected and flagged the potential fraud for human review. Unfortunately due to a bug with the instant payout feature one individual was able to withdraw those funds despite the flag on their account.

We're responsible for all fraud that happens on our platform, but as an early stage service any loss of this type can he substantial for us. As such we took immediate action to close this loophole and implement new processes around instant payouts.

Over the past week we've spent a substantial amount of time auditing our access to instant payout features, as well as our overall spam, fraud, and compliance protections. All of our protections, as augmented by our payment partners, are extremely effective.

However, most of our fraud protections are designed to protect situations where either the creator or buyer is acting in good faith. In this situation, while our fraud tools detected it immediately, we still needed to add additional protections to prevent this sort of event in the future.

What is Commiss.io's policy on service unavailability?

We take availability of our services extremely seriously. We're here for artists and clients first, and any service outage, even a partial one like this, is unacceptable.

In general we strive for a 99.9% or greater availability. We very rarely have any service outages, not to mention those extending past a few days. This was an extreme outlier and limited to the instant payouts feature only. No other payouts features (scheduled weekly/daily payments) were impacted.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please contact us using the on-site support tool or email [email protected]

Our responsibility to creators and clients is paramount. Please allow us to regain any trust we may have lost this week.

Self-service Refunds for Projects

about 7 years ago Improvement

In the past, creators had to contact customer support to cancel projects once an initial charge had been made.

We've now enabled self-service refunds, which allow you to refund your client directly and cancel the project. No need to contact support! There are a myriad of reasons a creator might cancel a project, and we had previously asked folks to go through support to ensure that we were catching any technical issues that might be the cause.

Please note this only allows for 100% refunds. If you need to charge the client a kill fee per the cancellation policy, you should still reach out to support. We also continue to offer white-glove support and dispute resolution free of charge for clients and creators.

Reordering and Deleting Folder Attachments

about 7 years ago Bug Fix

We've released a bug fix allowing users to delete and reorder attachments for exclusive content folders.

In addition, we've added a "show filename" option to folders. When this is enabled the filename will appear under the attachment preview when viewing the file. This is especially helpful for non-image attachments.

With our new suggestions forum you can help shape our roadmap.

The new suggestion forum allows us to engage directly with creators to find out what's most important to you. Create suggestions and vote on your favorite ideas. Commiss.io staff will respond, and keep the community updated on the progress.

We'll also be using the suggestion feature to manage our public roadmap, letting you know when features are planned, in progress, or implemented.

Speed Improvements

over 7 years ago Improvement

We've made a number of backend changes that should improve reliability and speed on a number of pages.

So far, you can expect to see improvements on:
  • Your Dashboard
  • All workboards
  • Creator profiles
These improvements apply to creators, buyers, and guests. So everyone should see a sharp increase in speed on these pages. For creators, a faster speed should help you lead to more sales!

We'll also be rolling out improvements in the coming week to project pages and listing pages, to help improve speed all around!
